Machinations

I was doing some bike maintenance today and couldn't help but notice the fantastic lines and textures.

Big changes afoot

If you've been experiencing significant change in your world, or have been avoiding change that seems confronting or difficult, then check out Mystic's latest post-so insightful!!

Tripping up

Despite my age, I have an adolescent sense of humour. I will still giggle at a good fart or poo joke (which is handy when you have four young nephews) and I laugh when I see someone trip over their feet.

Today it was me tripping up. I laughed at myself. I hope other people saw it and had a giggle to themselves.

It wasn't my most spectacular spill. That happend in Canberra. I was loaded up with banners and fact sheets and as I stepped off the curb, my heel caught and I took a tumble onto the road. Banners and factsheets went everywhere. Arms and legs did too.

I didn't laugh at myself that day. I could have cried with shock and pain. I'd skinned my knees and palms.

Even so, I hope someone else saw and it made them guffaw. Sights like that keep us young.

Those summer days

A wicked thunderstorm has just lit up the neighbourhood!

I was at a bootcamp session at New Farm Park when it hit. It was fantastic to be in it. Thunderstorms are so primal. Love it!

I remember, as kid, those muggy, suffocating summer days over the school break, when not even an ice block or swim in the pool could cool us down.

Late in the afternoon, like a wish granted, we'd see the sky darken toward the west. We could smell rain. It was coming.

Over the next half an hour or so, the wind would pick up. As the clouds got darker and closer, I could feel the wind cooling and bringing that long-waited break in the heat.

I'd sit on the front step and wait for the first drops of rain to kiss my cheeks.

It wouldn't take long for the fierceness of the storm to show. I'd scamper up to the top step and relative shelter. But I had to stay outside-the sky was putting on a wild light show for us!

Massive cracks of thunder and blinding flashes of lightning that tore up the sky. Wind and rain making trees thrash and bow.

It would pass as quickly as it arrived, leaving a spooky twilight that was full of silence for a little bit.

Every time I've lived away from Brisbane, I've missed storms like that. The energy in them connects me to some primal source.

Red for passion

It's a new moon tomorrow. Tonight is perfect for releasing old energy and welcoming in all sorts of goodness. I'm looking forward to what the new moon and the next few days brings.

New moons mean smudging and burning candles. White candles for spirit, green for prosperity, pink for love and red for passion.

Honouring the void moon

The moon was void in Leo last night.

When the moon is void, it's a good time to lay low, do small things, rest and relax. When the moon is void in Leo, it's a chance to get creative.

By happy coincidence, I found myself at a craft workshop with some girlfriends. It was all new to me and, while I don't think it's going to be my next passion,we created some fun pieces and I felt so peaceful and happy.

Out with the trash

As I was driving to my brother's house tonight, I saw that his neighbourhood was getting ready for a kerbside collection.

In front of every other house or block of flats there were piles of old furniture, mattresses, televisions, heaters, old carpets and wood panelling.

There was even a sleeping man in an electric wheelchair.

Seriously.

Little moments of magic

About five years ago I came across the idea of a dragonfly's moment when I heard a quirky and honest song by Brisbane band, Halfday

It captured me so instantly and visually, that it has become the way I describe the little moments of magic, wonder, comedy, abstraction and idle in my day.

Sometimes, I think these moments are worth sharing. So I will.
